Garner Area Ministries (GAM) is a non-profit organization chartered in 1981 with the mission of helping those living in Garner who are living below the poverty line and have reached out for help and are in need of assistance. There are four ways we have developed ways to provide assistance to those residents. Our ministry is made up of our organizations president, and Garner residential volunteers who come to either work at the thrift store, help in the food pantry, help deliver pharmaceutical needs to elderly or even work in the office and handle administrational work.
The first form of assistance that GAM has been able to provide to Garner residence is in the form of financial aid. Specifically, we help those in need to pay selected utility bills which they are behind in.
GAM also provides food once a year to families who are going without groceries. Our food pantry stays stocked to support families of four every three months.
We also provide household items, clothing and everyday things in our GAM thrift store, where we sell donated items to build funds for our other services mentioned before. Where we receive our donations, are generally from churches, civic centers, private citizens in the area, and those who wish to unload items they no longer need.
We provide Pharmaceutical needs, such as medicine, when people can not afford their over the counter or prescription medicine
To receive services from the ministry, you must first meet with an intaker. Call the office during business office to make sure you are within our service area, and schedule a time for your intake meeting. Allow an hour for filling out paperwork and meeting with your counselor. Based on your circumstances, you may be approved for some services or all of them. At that point, you will be given all the information you need about how to access them and when.
